The History Channel

I'll Take U.S. Presidents for $1,000, Alex

The History Channel. Now, this is jam-packed with game-show worthy trivia, making it an ideal study aid. Think of the last time you watched Jeopardy. Do any of these topics sound familiar?

  • Culture
  • Exploration
  • Military & war
  • Science & technology
  • Political & historical figures
  • World history
  • U.S. presidents
  • The states

Well, these very same topics are the focus of the History Channel. Now doesn't this sound like a match made in heaven?

Sometimes, people joke that this very same channel would be out of business if it weren't for World War II. But this is so not the case. History Channel topics span just about everything from biblical disasters to gangs and godfathers. Heck, they even do shows about UFOs.

Check out some of their current top shows.

  • Ancient Discoveries
  • Biblical Disasters
  • Cities of the Underworld
  • Civil War Journal
  • Comets: Prophets of Doom
  • Dogfights
  • From the Files of Interpol: The World's Most Wanted
  • Godfathers
  • Great Scientists
  • Heavy Metal
  • Hitler and the Occult
  • Little Ice Age: Big Chill
  • Mega Disasters & Mega Movers
  • Modern Marvels
  • MonsterQuest
  • Mysteries of the Freemasons
  • Science & Technology
  • The Lost Pyramid
  • The Real Tomb Hunters
  • The Universe
  • Titanic's Final Moments
  • Tsunami 2004
  • UFO Hunters

Now, this is just a small sampling, but still – there's hours of game show fodder here. And one of the best things about watching Cable TV is that, unlike your high school history teacher, the folks who produce these shows are FORCED to make their topics interesting.

It's all about ratings. If the show's boring, then no one watches. If no one watches, the show is canceled, and the producers lose their jobs. Now, when's the last time a teacher was given the proverbial boot for boring his or her audience? Never, you say? Hmmm...I rest my case.

I'll take U.S. Presidents for $1,000, Alex! Oh yeah, I know all about them, thanks to Cable TV.

If you'd rather read than watch the History Channel, you might want to take a quick look at my top recommended trivia books.
