Jeopardy Game Show Auditions

Jeopardy game show auditions usually begin with an online test – one that's notoriously challenging. If you're daunted by this, don't be! Study, study, study. Geography, history, U.S. Presidents, and just about anything else you can think of. Jeopardy is not for wusses.

Kids, Students, and Adults, Oh My! Now, more than ever, people of all ages can participate in Jeopardy game show auditions. For the regular show, adults must be 18 or older. College students must be full-time undergraduates with no previous bachelor's degree. Teens must be between the ages of 13 and 17. Kids must be between the ages of 10 and 12. Sorry, 9-year-old geniuses, you're out of luck!

Critical Steps to Becoming a Jeopardy Contestant:

  • Qualify for an "in-person" audition by either (1) passing the Online Test or (2) attending a Brain Bus event and passing the pre-test.
  • If you pass the online test and are invited to an "in-person" audition, you will then take another 50-question written test.
  • Your application will be judged based on your “in-person” test score as well as your online test score.
  • Everyone at the audition will play a short version of Jeopardy. Three people play at a time, just like on the actual show, complete with buzzers (not to be confused with buzzards).
  • Participate in a brief personality interview.

This is where you register to take the Jeopardy Game Show's online test. They only offer them at certain times of the year. But never fear, your time will come. In the meantime, study those presidents! Did I mention that Jeopardy isn't for wusses?

Jeopardy also has a terrific FAQ about the Jeopardy contestant search process. It outlines the whole process, beginning with your online test and ending with your selection as a Jeopardy game show contestant. It's very helpful if you're serious about auditioning.

A final note: One thing I love about Jeopardy is that they let you take the screening test on-line. A few years ago, a Jeopardy contestant-search came to Atlanta, just a few hours from where I was living. I never made the audition because something came up at work. It was just as well. If I hadn't passed the test, I'd have been sent home pronto – no interview or anything. That's why the on-line test is such a great idea – you can fail or succeed from the convenience of your own computer. Technology is amazing, isn't it?
