Wheel of Fortune Auditions

Wheel of Fortune auditions are among the most competitive, numbers-wise. Last year over a million people sought auditions. How many were selected to appear on the show? Fewer than 600. Talk about long odds!

Ready for a Lightning Strike? But before you get discouraged, consider this: If 600 people are selected, this means your odds are of making it onto the show are approximately one in 1,667.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service, the odds of being struck by lightning in the United States -- in a single year -- are one in 700,000. This means your odds of getting selected as a Wheel contestant are actually 420 times better than getting struck by lightning. Now, don't you feel luckier already?

Critical Steps

  • Complete the Wheel of Fortune Registration form.
  • Assuming you're lucky, this may lead to a special invitation to attend a Wheelmobile event. This is where they hold on-the-road auditions in select cities.
  • Pass a final audition where you'll:
    • Play a mock, mini-game along with other prospective contestants.
    • Take a five-minute written test consisting of 16 puzzles, where you fill in the missing letters.
    • MORE mock gaming, assuming you've made the initial cut.
  • Wait for your notification by mail.
With such daunting odds, producers strongly discourage contestants from incurring any expenses whatsoever to try out for the show. (No kidding, they actually list expenses to avoid, right down to babysitting costs.)

Another warning: You are responsible for any expenses incurred for accommodations, travel to and from the audition site, and to and from the taping, whether it's in Los Angeles or another city.

Still ready to spin that wheel? For more information, check out the show's Contestant FAQs. This is definitely among the best I've come across.
